Choosing Blinds-Wood or Faux Wood?

Choosing the right blinds and shades are key elements to successful window decorating. Wood blinds and Faux Wood blinds add warmth and a natural charm to any room. Durable and versatile custom-made blinds are a great choice for adding privacy and are good insulators from heat and cold.
Traditional Wood Blinds Wood blinds are the lightest weight. This is an important consideration when covering large windows. Bass wood is the preferred choice in wood blinds. With a distinctive grain perfect for staining or painting, bass wood is a strong choice for creating a natural wood look for your windows. A decorative 3" valance is standard for most wood blinds and adds to the beauty of the blind while concealing the steal headrail. Another consideration is the size of the slat. 2" slats look good on windows of any size and shape. 2½" slats give the look of plantation shutters and provide maximum see-through space when open.
Fans of real wood blinds argue that nothing can provide the authentic feel and warmth of real wood. Also, wood blinds are lighter and require fewer slats. Wood blinds can be recycled. Care must be taken when cleaning real wood blinds. Washing the blind is NOT recommended. Although the wood is sealed, water or even excessive dampness may cause warping or discoloration of the slats. Since the surface of the slats is smooth, dust may be easily brushed off at regular intervals using a clean soft dust cloth or a vacuum cleaner brush attachment.
Faux Wood Blinds Faux wood blinds are very durable. They will not fade, crack, warp or split making them perfect for rooms with heat and humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens. Faux wood blinds are as secure as traditional blinds and have a very natural appearance. In addition to being resistant to moisture, faux wood blinds are easy to clean. They can be wiped with a rag or hosed down with a water hose. Faux wood blinds can last longer than wood blinds and maintain their appearance better. With proper maintenance, faux wood blinds will last for many years.
Blinds made of wood or those with a wooden look add a feeling of warmth and coziness to the atmosphere in the room. They provide privacy without looking stark. They have an inviting look and add beauty to the rest of the furniture in the room.
