This month we will be exploring the Shabby Chic style of home decor. Shabby Chic as defined by
collinsdictionary.com is a style of interior design where furniture and furnishings are chosen for their appearance of age and
signs of wear or new items are distressed to achieve the look. They are typically white with a very feminine, soft, romantic feel. When choosing a wall or
ceiling color, think light. White or soft greys are typical colors when painting a home that has shabby chic decor. White on your walls or ceilings will bring
light into the room and give it a larger appearance. Distressed furniture is very popular. You can find several tutorials online that will explain how to
distress your furniture to give it the shabby chic look. Some of the best color choices are light turquoise, green, and pink for the pieces you plan
to paint. Fabric for draperies and furniture upholstery should be soft in color and often have floral motifs and lace. Table linens in
lace and
light colored fabrics are common in Shabby Chic homes. Choosing the proper
drapery rods to compliment the shabby chic style is also very important. You want to
find things that are delicate or light colored. Some suggestions are small rods,
crystal finials, or painting your existing rods a lighter color. All of these work
nicely to compliment you new decor. For finishing touches such as lighting and accessories, think delicate.
Crystal
chandeliers that are small add a romantic but not over powering feel to the room.
Lamps with light colored shades and distressed bases look wonderful. Small touches
of
burlap on pillows or other small accessories add a layer interest to the lace and delicate pieces. If you want to see
