French Style

This month we are going to highlight French and French Country decorating styles. If you love soft colors, gorgeous moldings and frills, French style is for you. Add in a country setting and rustic elemets and you have French country.  From ceiling down to the floor, each element invokes this inviting style.

Most homes decorated in this style have chandeliers.  If you are decorating more in the French instead of the country, try using a chandelier that has a more shiny or brassy color. French Country has a certain rustic feel; you can achieve this by finding one that has more wood or iron. When painting your walls or applying wallpaper; you can do almost anything. Solid colors remain the best when changing the walls; however, with either of these styles you can use a variety of wallpaper, plaster, and paint.  Flooring is almost as easy as covering the walls. Simple wood floors with rugs and runners are a good option for flooring in the French and French country style.  When looking for furniture, choose pieces that are wood with down filled cushions in the seats. Wood furniture such as tables and armoires should not be square in structure but have romantic lines and curved legs. To dress your room with fabrics, looks for silks and soft colors when it comes to decorating in the French style; it gives the room a romantic and soft feel.  If you want fabrics that are more French country look for plaids, toiles, and florals.  To finish off your room you will need accessories.  Small vases, candle sticks, and clocks are wonderful accessories for a French room. If you are more into French country, you will want to add roosters, art with animals, and small vases.
