Flame & Fire Retardant Fabrics

Even though all fabrics will burn, some fabrics because of special chemical treatments or because they are manufactured of inherently fireproof fibers, can be more fire resistant than other fabrics. The NFPA 701 test, developed by the National Fire Protection Association, was created to provide standards in fabrics used in public spaces. This test demonstrates a fabrics flame resistance, meaning, its ability to resist ignition when exposed to a flame. Those fabrics listed as inherently fire retardant, permanently fire retardant, or durably fire retardant will resist fire throughout their lifetime despite washing.
